I teach Gifted and Talented enrichment classes for four different schools, in the Grades Kindergarten through Fifth.
Some of my students are non-English speakers, but their love for learning is apparent.
My classes consist of diverse learners from various socioeconomic statuses. Most of my students are diverse learners who are very excited about their enrichment class, where we can do hands-on activities in addition to the monotone intervention and repetition that usually takes place. This is usually the only time where they are asked to be creative and develop their talents.
My students do not always come from homes where they are told that their futures are bright and they can become anything they choose. It is my mission to educate them about all the possibilities that await them and to nurture their talents.
My Project
As a traveling teacher for Gifted and Bright Students I am given 75 cents per student for the year. This budget does not allow for many basic supplies to be purchased leaving my students with very little choice to demonstrate their learning.
It is my belief that using colored paper or text rather than plain white paper or black letters can improve learning and performance.
My students will use the colored file folders to hold their daily work. They will record their work such as graphs, writings, science observations etc on the multi bright papers. Students will be able to select the colors of their choice to record their learning therefore making daily work engaging and providing choice. My students will use the foam boards and tape to create visuals aids to demonstrate or chart their learning.
