My Students

I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn.

My Project

This printer and printer ink will be used for a variety of everyday educational needs including daily writing and printing in the classroom. I envision the students being able to each have an opportunity to create and print group projects. I also want them to learn how to respect the delicacies of the latest technology. It's not just a tool by which they can create things. As a history teacher I also see it as a gateway to better understanding how technology is a part of history from the wheel, to paper, to phones, to cars, to television, etc. It's just another aspect of human life throughout the ages, but one that has set our species apart from others and allowed us to adapt the environment to our needs. Students need to then appreciate how not to abuse that ability. They need to truly comprehend the enormity of how the latest technology can affect their lives. By having access to a color printer in our classroom, my students will have immediate access to all of the pictures, symbols and materials they need to be successful.

My students have many challenges to overcome every day, but with these new materials, we would be able to give my students the best chances to gain new skills like their peers.
