Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students are excited to take a break from their classroom to sing, move, and play instruments. I want my students to enter my classroom excited about music, and learn to have the desire to set high expectations for themselves. Students can express themselves through an engaging music program!

I am a new music teacher without a large amount of resources.

My students have been moaning because hitting two sticks together just aren't as exciting as they would like. I need student friendly instruments that are engaging and exciting to my students. The majority of my students are Spanish speaking students in an urban environment. They are very excited to play instruments and explore music. I am a new teacher and am working to build the music program into an exciting program that students are excited to be a part of. My students ask me everyday if they get to play instruments, and I am so excited that they want to learn how to play instruments and be part of an ensemble (musical community).

My Project

My students love playing new instruments! We currently have an Orff xylophone that is falling apart, missing bars, and missing mallets. Every time they see this instrument however, they get so excited! I would love my students to all be able to play on this wonderful instrument, but without a functional instrument, they can only look at it. Students will be able to play many different accompaniments using the xylophone with our different songs, and even perform on it during assemblies. My students also love to dance, so I would like to add scarves and ribbons to the tools students can use when moving and creating.

This project will continue to add more engaging materials and resources to the classroom.

It will provide students with fun instruments and tools that will help to inspire their continued music education. When students fall in love with music at an early age, they are more likely to continue with music in their lives. Students who are involved in music are at an advantage both socially and academically. They learn to work as a team and set high expectations for themselves.
