This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project is all about creating a welcoming, flexible learning environment where my Spanish and ESL students can truly thrive. By incorporating essential classroom resources like phonics exercises, vocabulary flashcards, bilingual books, and flexible seating, I’m aiming to meet the unique needs of each student and foster a love for language learning.
Phonics Exercises will give students the foundational skills they need to connect sounds with letters, boosting their confidence in both English and Spanish.
As they practice, they’ll feel more empowered to tackle new words and sounds, laying the groundwork for fluency.
Vocabulary Flashcards are an interactive way for students to reinforce new vocabulary, which is key for communication and comprehension. These cards will not only expand their word banks but also provide a fun, visual way to solidify their language skills.
Bilingual Books will bridge the gap between languages, providing engaging, accessible reading material that nurtures comprehension and promotes a love for reading. They’ll help students understand both languages, which is invaluable for their growing literacy.
Flexible Seating allows students to take charge of their learning and choose the space that works best for them. Some students prefer working under tables with clipboards, others enjoy sitting on the floor or at different tables. Giving them these options makes them more comfortable, more engaged, and ultimately more productive. It’s amazing to see how making small changes in seating can positively impact their focus and work ethic.
I’ve seen firsthand how empowering students with choices—whether in seating or learning materials—makes a huge difference. When students feel comfortable and in control of their learning environment, they’re more focused, more motivated, and more likely to succeed.
