Bridging the Hunger Gap

My Students

I have the privilege of working with over 560 awesome kids and getting to work in the E.A.S.E department is rewarding. Our goal is to help students and their families economically, give them accessibility, help them socially, emotionally, and academically, which leads to productive and successful futures. Therefore, we are constantly adapting to meet the needs of our students.

Recently we have been classified as a Title 1 School, which means most of our students come from poverty.

As teachers see the hunger in our classrooms, we are concerned about hunger impacting students' ability to succeed. Hungry kids lose the ability to concentrate, and we see poor academic performance and behavioral and discipline problems. We also see that hungry students are less healthy, resulting in more absenteeism.

My Project

I started an in-school food pantry at the beginning of this school year. It has proved to be very successful.

Too many students will eat their only meal of the day at school and nothing on the weekend.

E.A.S.E provides a school pantry for every hungry child. It is super hard to learn if you are hungry, and providing healthy snacks will help fill tummies and give them the ability to succeed in school.

Attending school, learning, playing, and socializing takes a lot of energy. If a student is hungry or hangry, these things can be difficult. Providing healthy snacks or brain food throughout the day and after school gives each student's a better school/home life experience. We will allow students to choose a snack that works best for them. Giving them the option to select a snack can be a great motivator and fuel the mind and body.

My pocketbook and many teachers' pocketbooks have run dry, but the need has not. I provide nutritional alternatives like trail mix, oatmeal, granola bars, and hot food like mac 'n cheese, soup, and Rice-A-Roni cups. Please help me feed my students so that they are ready to learn.

I can't thank you enough for making it possible to run a school food pantry continually. Everyone deserves to go to school without worrying about food.
