Bridging the Gap

My Students

My students love to learn through different modalities. They especially enjoy learning through the use of the arts. They enjoy classroom discussion about topics and building on each other's knowledge as a result of them. They actively help each other solve problems in the area of Mathematics as well as in other subject areas. This year however, has impacted them tremendously. They are in need of extra small group instruction to help them bridge the gap between this year and least year due to time lost with the pandemic. They are a joy to teach and love working in small group to strengthen their reading skills.

My Project

The 2020 Pandemic has had a tremendous impact on the progress of my students. It has caused delays in learning that have traveled over into the new school year. With most of the year being remote, it has been extremely difficult to address the vast amount of deficits that each student has acquired. The need for more small group instruction and center work has therefore become a priority and a necessity. Materials that enable the students to practice reading skills in context, traditional phonics skills, as well as, fluency would truly make a difference in the lives of my learners. These materials would help them perform better on their formative assessments. They will also help them increase their reading fluency and develop strategies that will help them become better readers and learners throughout all areas of the curriculum.
