My students need literature and activities to experience a connection between math, literacy, health and music to have a completely connected education.

My Students
Some students just don't get math, some just don't get literature. They aren't dumb students, they might be students with a musical intelligence and need that extra boost of music with a subject to make it stick in their minds.
I have awesome students who work hard to reach the goal set before them.
These students come from all walks of life. We have students who come from very stable homes to students who move almost weekly because of external circumstances. We have military dependents and children who are raising themselves. Ninety percent of my students receive free or reduced school lunches and live below the poverty line. These are students who don't know what it is like to buy groceries without a food stamp card. Because of the income level of our neighborhood and population, our school is a recognized Title I school. We have teachers, tutors and support staff who work together to insure these students have the best learning opportunity and encourage them to succeed. They are the generation that will make a difference in the lives of their families and change the course of poverty in their lives.
My Project
I am constantly looking for ways to incorporate music into every aspect of my student's lives. We learn how to read music, sing and play instruments, but I also make a point to address how important every student is in the production of playing a song. My goal for the upcoming school year is to broaden my spectrum as well as that of my students and start bridging the gap between music, reading and music. I fully believe that the Math in Motion Binder, the Balanced Literacy Binder and the Bon A PE Binder will give me some very much needed insight into reaching the students who do not fall into the mathematical intelligences or the literary intelligences and helping them grasp those skills needed for testing.
In the age of No Child Left Behind it is a fact that we are still leaving children behind.
As a teacher it is my responsibility to make sure those students are reached. If I can reach a math-inclined student with a song, I will have made a difference. If I can reach a sports-inclined student, I will have made a difference. Your donations to this project will help me as well as other teachers in my building to gain another tool to bring these children into the 21st century as well.
