My students need individual laptops to do all the things that will make them successful in this 21st century learning environment.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a self contained Kindergarten and First grade class, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. These children are sweet and loving but also face a very large academic deficit.
In our growing technological world there are many opportunities for learning through electronics but that is only if the student has access to it.
Our classroom consists of one smartboard and, while it is extremely beneficial in the classroom, it doesn't provide the one on one learning that a laptop could. Many special education children learn best through visual and auditory examples. We would like to give our students the opportunity to tap into that learning in the classroom.
Our school serves students in grades Pre-K through grade 8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Many of our students are living below the poverty line.
My Project
By providing the students with a laptop during the working day the students will be able to practice reading skills through engaging online phonics websites like Starfall and topics that we learn in science and social studies through different learning sites like PBS Kids or BrainPop.
Many of these students don't travel far from home but with a laptop they can see the world!
Our school has an excellent online component to our math program that provides video explanations and online games but our students don't have the ability to access it from home right now. A laptop in class would give them the extra help they need.
More than half of students from low‑income households
