Research states that an important component to supporting academic success is the relationship between home and school. I want my students and their families to have access to learning materials each evening. Take home bags are a great way to do this!
My classroom is made up of 25 third graders.
They are eager learners who come from various backgrounds and require different instruction to meet their needs. Our school is located in a high poverty area with many students on free and reduced price lunches. We are also a "Leader in Me" school that empowers students to be leaders in the 21st century.
My Project
My students need 30 durable take home bags to transport their reading and math materials back and forth from school and home each day! These take home bags will allow my students to transport their guided reading books, math flash cards, and math games back and forth from home and school. Each day, students receive guided reading books at their instructional level. After reading the book in our guided reading group, students take the book home for rereading at night. I am currently using Ziploc bags to transport the books and they never hold up well. I'd also like students to take home math materials in these bags each night to practice so they can practice their math facts. These take home bags would allow my students to have the learning materials they need at home and will encourage them to keep everything organized!
Donations to this project will help me bridge the home and school connection.
Regardless of each child's situation, these durable bags will help to ensure that every student has access to learning materials at home!
