My students need STEM learning centers, engineering centers, and science stations to encourage them to learn about science through hands-on manipulatives.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember a time when you discovered something new and you were amazed to find out how it was built? This is how my Transitional Kindergarten students will feel when they investigate science concepts through play.
I have 24 amazing Transitional Kindergarten students!
Everyday I want them to explore and discover their world through purposeful play and hands-on explorations. Our school is a TK-6th grade with about 700 students with 88% qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
My Project
During our self-selected center time, my Transitional Kindergarten students will have access to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based stations. These stations will provide the students opportunities to build bridges and ramps, use water play to learn about buoyancy, create scales to learn about weight and balance, race carts down ramps, build vehicles using the same important elements of real-life vehicles, and learn to use tools for observation and investigation. They will be encouraged to use the stations to build, explore, improve their fine motor skills, and develop skills in creative design and open-ended building with minimal teacher involvement. My students will enhance their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with these STEM stations.
The donations will improve our classroom because Transitional Kindergarten is a new grade level and will help with providing my students with more hands-on experiences that they can develop through play.
The science stations will give my students more opportunities to explore STEM and get them excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics!
