Bridge to Writing in Kindergarten

My Project

Having a good and strong writing curriculum is foundational for students to be able to write, and to write successfully. For young students this isn't something that comes naturally, and I love that Heggerty makes there lessons fun and engaging for students. I have seen this in how my students have grown and actively participate when we use the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculum.

Writing is such a crucial piece in developing our young students to be successful in all areas.

I feel that having an engaging and purposeful curriculum would help my students to be successful young writers. This curriculum would provide that for not just this group of students but for groups that follow behind them in years to come. This curriculum also follows the model that is beneficial in teaching students which is the I do, we do, you do. It also aligns with the Science of Reading that we are all following now to help our students with all areas of reading, which includes writing.

There is not currently a curriculum in place for me to successfully teach them the necessary skills our students need to be successful writers. Having taught second grade the last couple of years I have seen how our students have struggled from not having a good writing foundation and I want to change that. I want to be able to set my students up so that as they grow their writing skills can increase each year, and not be frustrated when their teachers ask them to write. Through using this curriculum I feel I will be able to do that with not only the current group of Kindergarten students I have, but those that will enter my classroom in the future.
