My Project

Hello,

My name is Ms. Brandi-Rose Michael.

I’ve been a part of the Bricolage Family since 2016. I originally started as an after-school theatre teacher. This year, we are offering Theatre class as a full-time co-curricular.

I graduated from the Mississippi School of the Arts which is a residential Fine Arts high school. In 2012, I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.A. in Theatre performance. At the time of my attendance, USM was the only university in Mississippi accredited in all the Arts. Growing up in a rural small town, Greenwood, MS, involvement in the arts allowed me the opportunity to express my “creativeness”: which was sometimes viewed as weird or defiant, in a safe and accepting space. I know firsthand just how important involvement in the arts is for young people.

Our program is in its first year and I’m so excited about all the projects we’ve completed so far. My students have already written and starred in their original works, as well as performed for a packed auditorium. Watching my students grow through their art has been such a joy and truly the highlight of my school year.

Our biggest theatrical endeavor will happen this spring. Bricolage Middle school will present “Into the Woods Jr” for our spring musical. This will be a co-curricular collaboration; Theatre, Orchestra, Art, and Makerspace. Because this project is so ambitious, we are calling on all resources available to us to make this happen. The current challenge is funding for costumes. This is the greatest area of need for the theatre department. Because the spring musical is so spectacular, we want to be able to have every element needed to present a great show. Any contribution to this cause would be so appreciated.
