it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have been afforded the opportunity to support some of our school district’s most severely impacted students with autism and other disabilities. The 2 easy build master brick sets I am requesting will be used as a traveling activity across 5 elementary schools to develop skills to improve the quality of life for learners with limited interests.
Through block play, my students will practice turn-taking, joint attention, and requesting—key foundational communication skills.
Building together will foster collaboration, allowing peers and instructors to model language and social cues in a low-pressure, engaging environment. The predictable and repetitive nature of building can also reduce anxiety and promote focus. Educators, paraprofessionals, registered behavior technicians and our special service providers (BCBAs, SLPs, OTs, school psychs, and SWs) will use block-based tasks to teach sequencing, spatial awareness, and problem-solving. Overall, these tools will offer a playful, motivating context that supports learning through doing, while reinforcing essential communication and cognitive skills.
