Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

This class of students are an enthusiastic group. They are new to our school as freshmen but have embraced our small school's culture and feeling of family. Some of the leaders on this project were Emely, Jennifer, Alexis, Jonathan, Sonia, Edgar, Brandon, Abby, Marc, and Miguel.

My students developed this idea in class and worked in teams to make it happen. We brainstormed for what we needed as a class, and the students wrote why we needed these things in groups of three or four. They were not required to do so, but they enthusiastically embraced the challenge.

Students will LOVE these books and will read them voraciously, bringing up their reading level to prepare them for upper class level work and college level work beyond that. They have already been honing their ability to work in teams in the writing of this project and will continue that work if the project is funded. They will help organize the supplies, coordinate the class in writing thank you notes, and help care for the supplies.

In Their Own Words

We would like to make our classroom better using the items we've dreamed of: new books and magazines, a rug for the classroom library, art supplies, speakers, and basics like tissues and bandaids. All the new things we are going to get will help us because we will be able to read when we finish the class work. The rug will make our room a more comfortable place to read. These new items will make it easier to focus and learn in our classroom.

We have been working to bring updated books and other supplies into our classroom by writing this grant. Once the project is posted, my group and I could help by promoting it on social media. Once we get these supplies, we will make sure everyone uses them the right way and for the right uses. We will make sure to take care of the supplies as well. This grant will make sure students have the resources they need to be productive.

We live in a poor neighborhood, so our school doesn’t get a lot of funding. We don’t have as much technology and other supplies as other schools. We don’t mind, but this would make our classroom better. A rug would really brighten our class library. It has been proven that people are attracted to colorful things, so a rug and colorful books will get us more readers! Students will be more motivated to learn and participate. If you give life to our library, we would really appreciate it.
