Breathing Balance Into Purpose, One Student at a Time!
I need to enhance my skills in a PD to learn coping tools for my students. That will help me become a certified yoga instructor and qualified to lead wellness workshops for my school community.
I am a special education, middle school teacher that currently teaches in a self contained setting. In the classroom I have seen the importance of social emotional learning and how various coping tools help with classroom management.
I would like to bring a sense of community to my class with the use of social emotional learning and practices with breathing techniques to create safe space for all students with the challenges they face inside and outside our school community.
My Project
I am interested in becoming a practitioner of yoga and a mindfulness facilitator. Meditation and yoga have brought so much peace and strength into our students’ lives in the past year and I would like to continue that journey. It has helped students to focus, use breathing for dealing with anxiety, and grow as individuals & as scholars. I want to take the Breathe for Change 200-hour Wellness, S.E.L and Yoga Teacher Training to bring these same tools to my classroom and my school.
The goal will be providing trauma-informed yoga classes to our students, utilize mindfulness practices in our classroom to help with stress or anxiety students may experience, and provide students with autonomy over their own well-being so they can feel empowered.
This would be healthy for the mind and body to teach self-love and the importance of physical movement. I believe it provides our young adults with more opportunities to develop their mindfulness and emotional well-being, especially for my population of students. This training will give me the tools necessary to fully embrace this focus. I strongly believe once coping skills are taught it can become a part of a healthier lifestyle. Productive citizens come from individuals that have a strong foundation. That is what I want all my students to become!
