My Students
My students face many social, emotional, and economic challenges. Over half of them are English learners and 90% come from low income families. Many have come to the United States as refugees, fleeing intolerance or other hardships at home and are now learning to live in a very diverse community.
My students are developing into reflective learners who seek out opportunities for action.
They are very aware of the inequity that exists in the world and they are determined to make positive change.
My class is caring, curious, and motivated. They love team-building activities and practicing their leadership skills. They enjoy math and the Zumba breaks that come afterwards. They get lost in stories and beg for one more chapter. They love using technology to develop research skills and to share what they've learned. They are full of joy, endlessly silly, and incredibly thoughtful young citizens of their community.
My Project
Thanks to the kindness of several donors, I have received funding to attend the Breathe for Change 200-hour Social Emotional Learning and Yoga training this summer.
I am looking forward to using research-based wellness practices to help my students gain confidence in their abilities to inspire change!
This training will provide the foundation for daily social emotional learning and wellness in my classroom.
Though I have been practicing yoga for years, this training requires a few supplies that I do not yet own. Additionally, there are several recommended books that will support my learning. Your donations will help me purchase a few of these items so that I can make the most of my training experience!
