My Students
I teach all of the 5th and 6th graders in our elementary school. I have about 90 hard working students a year. Unfortunately, we are a rural Appalachian school with a high poverty level. This will be my 3rd year in this building and I am desperately trying to foster their love of reading! Before I was hired here, most students honestly say they were not reading more then 2 or 3 books a year. The schools resources on reading materials is minimal.
My students need to be exposed to a variety of text to continue to foster their love of reading!
I have spent a lot of money buying books for my classroom and have fostered a love of reading in many of my students in the short time I have been there. Most of these students have no access to reading materials outside of my small classroom library. They want these materials and I want to provide them for them.
My students are very grateful for the materials I have provided. Many of them read below level and need a lot of reading support. I want to be able to give that to them.
My Project
We need 3 Breakout EDU boxes! Kids' need hands on activities to help them learn! To break up the monotony of the everyday classroom! Students will use the breakout boxes to turn boring test prep into exciting, race against the clock activities that make learning enjoyable!
I would love to be able to offer my deserving students this engaging learning activity.
Unfortunately, this isn't something I am able to do alone. I need the help of special, giving people like those that donate to Donors Choose!
The professional development books will assist me in proving other engaging activities to the students! Having the students in 5th and 6th grade mean I have to stay on top of my game! I need to have new and fresh ideas to keep them engaged two years running and not present them with the same activities each year!
