My Students
We learn together at a small neighborhood school in Philadelphia. My students are special to me because this is the neighborhood I grew up in. We are a classroom that includes all ranges of learners and abilities. It's truly a community because of its small size and really allows for us to be a family. My kids are inquisitive. They love learning and being involved in all sorts of activities. They are creative and funny.
I love to challenge them to take ownership of their learning and they are always ready to respond and make it happen.
We try to rise to the occasion and discover new ways to learn and we try new things to help make that happen. We are a group that really tries to be best people we possibly can. I wouldn't trade these kids for the world because they are all really unique. I'm also really lucky because I teach in the neighborhood I grew up in and we are really bonded by our sense of community.
My Project
BreakoutEDU allows students to practice and utilize 21st-century learning skills in a "gamified" environment. By working together, students are able to collaborate to solve puzzles, discover clues, and build their relationships as a team. It aligns perfectly with our school's core values: inquiry, investigation, collaboration, and reflection.
BreakoutEDU is a different approach to learning where students think outside the box to solve problems.
In order for this project happen, we need breakout kits. Breakout kits contain the locks, boxes, and other materials that help make the games happen. Each box presents an opportunity for over 250 learning experiences to happen.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
