Help me give my students the opportunity to think critically, collaborate, be creative, and improve their communication skills while using Breakout EDU kits in the classroom.
They keep me on my toes and teach me something new every day.
I teach in a rural high school in a big city. We have around 2800 students total in our building. I have classes consisting of special needs students with a variety of disabilities. My students range from a 1st-grade reading level to a 6th-grade reading level, with challenges relating to Dyslexia, Traumatic Brain Injury, Autism, and multiple cognitive disabilities. Along with their academic challenges, my students sometimes struggle with social skills and life skills as well. I love my students. They are fun, compassionate, witty, and energetic. They teach me to take myself less seriously and remind me that everyone has something special and important to offer the world.
My Project
My students come from many diverse backgrounds and have varying ability levels and many come from households with low socioeconomic status. Although they are each unique, they have at least one thing in common. In order for them to invest in their learning, lessons need to grab their attention and allow them to immerse themselves in the topic or activity. The Breakout EDU kit is a collection of locks, boxes, and other items that can be used repeatedly to allow my students to dive into their lesson and actively engage in their education.
Learning through active play, striving to solve puzzles through teamwork, synthesizing knowledge and critical thinking, are a few of the benefits of Breakout EDU games.
These tasks, similar to popular escape rooms, encourage students to put their learning to use in engaging and challenging scenarios. Students must work together to decipher riddles, piece together puzzles, break codes, and persevere in solving complex problems. They'll have to think outside the box, work together, and maintain composure under pressure to successfully complete the Breakout task. Not only will these kits help reinforce the Applied English curriculum of my class, but Breakout EDU games take project-based, cooperative learning to the next level and cultivate additional skills that will serve my students beyond the classroom into their careers and adult lives.
The materials I've requested will provide two Breakout kits and access to Breakout EDU Platform with over 800 games covering a wide array of subjects. I will be able to create and assign games to my classes. In addition, my students can also create games themselves because included in this project is the Student Game Design Course to facilitate the game design process. These kits will provide opportunities to learn and improve that my students would not otherwise have.
