Breakout Edu Box Kits: Escape Room Fun with Educational Benefits
Help me give my students 6 Breakout Edu Kits. Each kit includes items that help students solve "Escape Room" type puzzles, requiring them to work together as teams, using logic, communication and cognitive reasoning while having fun, too.
Several years ago we discovered Breakout Boxes, a kit that is similar to solving escape room style puzzles, from a district STEM program and borrowed them for our STEM class rotation. Our students got hooked on them from the first try and we've borrowed them ever since. They aren't available to borrow any more, but it has become a STEM tradition to do an escape room style puzzle each year. We would like to acquire a set of boxes for our STEM class and the whole school to use.
Breakout Boxes engage students to use critical thinking, teamwork, and utilize knowledge from a variety of curriculum such as math, reading, science, and social studies.
We focus on STEM subjects, but most importantly we emphasize the critical thinking and teamwork aspects, as these are useful skills throughout a student's school experience and on into careers as adults.
In STEM we also love to have fun and make the students' experience with us enjoyable. The borrowed Breakout Boxes have proven year after year that solving puzzles and looking for clues offers challenging, thought provoking problem solving activities, while letting the students "let down their hair" a little, and have a good time using and building educational skills without realizing they are hard at work.
Over these years of using Breakout Boxes we have collected and created quite a few sets of puzzles, and there are so many more ideas that we can find and use as we set up our own set of Breakout Box Kits.
