This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I would describe my students as being very diverse in many aspects. I teach at an inner city high school and many come to our school for our IB Program. My students come from many different ethnic backgrounds. My student population includes students who are African American, African, Asian, South Asian, Hispanic, British, and Caucasian. I have students who are upper middle class, but the majority come from working class families. About 15% of my students have an IEP or 504 accommodation and a couple of them are in the foster care system. About 80% of my students are inner city kids. The school I also work out is Title 1.
My Project
As an educator I am always looking for student engagement while provoking curiosity, inquiry, analysis and collaboration. I recently borrowed a set of breakout boxes to teach my students a lesson on the Cold War. They were so awesome! My students instantly were excited when they saw them as well as engaged. Since these break out boxes mimic escape rooms, students were instantly engaged while working together, asking questions and breaking down what they learned about the Cold War previously to help them open their boxes. After looking up how to make my own boxes that I could use on a regular basis, I discovered it would be close to $1000 dollars. Of course as a teacher I don't have funds like that available to me and thats why I am asking for some wonderful donors to help me out :)
