This year, my eighth graders are inspired. They are inspired by the worlds they hold in their hands -- the books they read.
Our class is made up of a diverse group of young men and women.
They are from different backgrounds, they learn in various ways, and they have a multitude of interests. One thing they all have in common is their love of good stories with strong characters.
My Project
Sure, we've got books in our classroom library, but over the past couple of years, and this year especially, a number of books have debuted that will really make our collection spectacular. From adventures to mysteries to fantasies, there's something for everyone. There's even some realistic fiction thrown in, too! Most importantly, these book feature characters who stand up for themselves, characters who aren't afraid to go against society's norms, and characters who are learning exactly who they are -- just like many of my students.
We all know books are magical.
They take us places, they teach us things, and they make us feel. This project will improve our classroom library by bringing to it new, inspiring, marvelous books -- entire worlds that my students will have at their fingertips.
