This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are young people of color who are eager to learn but have some challenges. Many come from a vastly impoverished, drug-ridden, crime-ridden neighborhood. It has always been my desire to arm them with the tools, resources and specialized knowledge in order to break the negative cycle and start a new, more positive cycle.
This project helps arm them with the resources necessary to help instill a philosophy, framework, and structure into a classroom and school community that encourages positive participation rather than defeatist attitudes.
Through this project, our hope is to help to build a school of actively involved learners, in a symbiotic environment, which conveys social and academic education through real-world, student-centered activities that are relevant to them, but first, we need to put the tech into their hands to ease their access to the curriculum and allowing them to overcome their physical and learning challenges. From the ergonomic design of the magic keyboard to the ease of the Amazon Fire Tablets and iPads to the Special Education library provided to my students with special needs so that they don’t have to be limited to just special needs or therapeutic apps. They can benefit from essentially any iPad app designed for their mainstream peers, keeping learning fun and entertaining.
