My students need Scholastic News subscriptions. Scholastic News articles are current and just the right size to prepare them for academic success. A printer will allow my students to "publish"their writings.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Astounding is the best way to describe my students. My students attend an urban school. They are very culturally diverse. Many of my students are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and live in households where English is not the first language. They are eager to learn and have a strong sense of discovery. Due to limited funding sources, my students do not have as many opportunities to travel beyond their neighborhood. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in life.
My Project
Do you remember being excited when a favorite magazine came in the mail? My students do not have that opportunity. Many of my students do not home libraries. A monthly subscription would mean so much to them and provide front row access to events happening around the world. A printer would allow my student's to see their writings in print.
Without these resources, it will be difficult meeting requirements of the Common Core Standards.
My students will learn how to comprehend informational texts of varying complexity. Scholastic News Online complements the print magazine with videos, Know the News review games, alternate reading levels, and an audio read-aloud function.
Please help me instill the love of reading and writing to my students with a subscription to Scholastic News and a classroom printer.
