This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located near one of the largest and busiest shipping ports in the world. Most of the students in my classroom receive free or reduced lunch. We are excited this year to become a Global Awareness Magnet and are eager to learn more about global issues.
Second grade is a very exciting year as a reader.
Students begin to transition from learning to read to reading to understand. This is the year they become more independent readers. My students are very enthusiastic learners.
My Project
Time for Kids will be a valuable learning tool for the students. The magazine has a variety of news articles on different topics from around the world. Students will be able to learn about current events and gain a global awareness of beyond their local community. It will be used during our reading, writing, and history blocks.
The subscription for Time for Kids will benefit all the second graders at our school.
The magazine will increase students' reading fluency and comprehension strategies and skills. Students will be able to respond by writing their own opinion pieces about the articles they read. The online component will increase students' technology skills. The subscription to Time For Kids magazine will be a valuable addition to students' learning!
