it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine moving to a foreign country and having to learn the same skills and concepts of its residents, without knowing a word of their language. For many children immigrating to the United States, this is their reality. I plan to teach them the English language in a fun, open, and effective manner!
My school is a little gem hidden in a large city named Hialeah.
The majority of our students are Hispanic and come from low-income households. My 4th grade English Language Learners are bright, sweet, curious, and excited to be in school. Many of them have immigrated to the United States in the past year. Despite this, they are tech-savvy, even if many of them cannot afford to purchase their own devices. They rely on the technology available to them in school.
My Project
Our newly adopted reading series offers many wonderful interactive visual and auditory resources that would help my ELLs succeed in the acquisition of the English language. However, I strongly believe they need a specialized program that teaches them the English language. They need a program (such as Rosetta Stone) where they can learn, listen, and practice English on a daily basis. The use of a tablet (such as the requested Apple iPad mini) would enable me to share these resources and this program with my students on a daily basis. Moreover, I would be able to expose them to hundreds of visuals that will help them acquire new vocabulary in an effective and engaging manner. The use of a tablet will provide my students with an infinite amount of visual and auditory experiences that normally do not occur through the solitary use of traditional text materials.
The journey these children face when leaving their native countries is often long, difficult, and overwhelming.
