My Students

Breakfast is brain food. We keep hearing from scientists, nutritionists, educators, and even politicians that our kids need better nutrition in their lives, and they need it NOW!

My classroom is located in Colorado, in a loving but high-needs neighborhood where many families are struggling to learn English as a second language, and to make ends meet.

My students LOVE coming to school and I want to make sure that they have the best materials to help them reach their learning goals. This includes a healthy breakfast. Our school provides free and healthy breakfast for all students, but with only a few minutes to eat it. My 5 and 6 year olds are often very slow eaters, and have to throw out most of what they are served. In addition, breakfast is only served during a 15 minute window at the start of the day, so if a student is late to school, they do not eat that morning. Our students deserve better. They deserve to have the fuel they need to help them focus, attend, think, and actively participate in their learning.

My Project

I am requesting a mini fridge to keep in my classroom, so that students can bring their unfinished fruits, yogurts, and milks back from breakfast and keep them cold to eat later in the day. This simple appliance will help my students get the healthy foods their brains and bodies so desperately need. Being able to have healthy snacks easily accessible, and to guarantee every student has a breakfast (whether they are tardy or not) will make a HUGE difference in my classroom.

As adults, we know that when you don't take care of your body and its basic needs, you cannot expect it to be performing at its best.

Breakfast is a basic need, and being able to refuel the body with healthy snacks simply makes sense. I want to be able to take care of my student's basic needs, so that I can lead them towards a brighter future. Please help support me and my classroom by donating to this project inspired by FEED USA.
