My Project
I set up a breakfast/snack bar at the start of the year to help students who may be hungry because they missed breakfast or needed a mid day snack to get through the day. It was a hit!! As more students found out about it, the line outside of my office between classes grew longer and longer. Needless to say, the stock quickly dwindled and by the end of the semester the stock needed to be replenished.
Increasing time spent in class learning has always been my priority.
As a School Social Worker it is my primary responsibility to help remove barriers to learning and food insecurity is a major barrier. When students are full their focus and productivity increases significantly. They spend more time in class working and less time seeking the nurse, social worker, or dean of students.
