My Students
I am the sole ENL teacher as a small Title 1 school in South Jamaica, Queens. In South Jamaica Queens a high percentage of students and families are living below poverty and receiving some sort of supplemental help from the government. Specifically, in Jamaica Children’s School we have over 34% of students receiving some sort of services (ENL, Speech, OT, PT). I serve English language learners in grade Kindergarten -5th grade. Our ELLs come from all over the world, we have students that speak Spanish, Bangla, Arabic, Ibo and French.
My Project
JCS ELLs/ MLLs (English language/ multilingual learners) are incredibly awesome, hardworking, and intelligent. ELLs/ MLLs are an underserved community often in need of resources that they do not have succeed academically. As JCS ENL teacher, I am constantly looking for ways and opportunities to let ELLs/MLLs succeed in class.
ELLs/MLLs often need a lot of visual support.
They need colorful visuals to lift the affective filter of language. The colorful visual support MLLs learning of new vocabulary and keeps students engaged in learning.
I find myself lacking a basic color printer to use for printing out supplementary materials to support my ELLs/MLLs in their learning.
Help me help my MLLs engage in learning!
I often find myself resorting to use my home printer. Often times the great ideas arrive in the classroom and I want access to print out colorful learning materials to support my ELLs/MLLs.
