Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I love my students! I am a teacher of gifted students and work to identify those students, as well as those who are highly capable academically and/or creatively, and I teach them an enriched curriculum that meets their needs. In the schools where I teach, many students truly are gifted and highly capable, but their life circumstances don't always allow for them to be recognized as such. All students in our District are on free or reduced lunch, and so many of my students struggle with daily life in shelters, foster families, etc. BUT, when they come to school and are recognized for their exceptional abilities, their faces light up, and there is no stopping them from learning and exploring!
I wish to provide them with materials that encourage their exploration of all kinds of learning in hopes that their discoveries will outweigh their challenges, and they will not only become life-long learners but also champions!
My Project
My students are working to develop their high-level critical thinking skills, in addition to learning ELA and math content. Break Out boxes are a fun but oh-so-challenging way to do all of this! Students must solve situations and math problem in order to get each of the locks to open, in order that they can "break out" and be winners.
As gifted students, these kiddos need to continue developing their intellectual skills.
But, as kiddos, they learn best when projects are competitive and fun. By choosing to help fund this project, you will be a true blessing for many children who have few opportunities to develop their God-given talents when they are not in the classroom.
