My Project
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment of producers and directors is projected to grow 7 percent from 2022 to 2032, faster than the average for all occupations. The overall employment of broadcast, sound, and video technicians is projected to grow 2 percent from 2022 to 2032, equal to the average for all occupations. Our world functions on creative elements that bring people together. Music production is quickly becoming a household name. Much like the acoustic piano was during its time, recording studios are taking its place in many homes.
Based on intuition, life conversations with students, and a cheap usb microphone recycled from an outdated Rockband video game controller, I took a risk of building a soundproofed 4’x8’x84” vocal/recording booth that I personally funded and fully equipped; and it caught the attention of many students, core teachers, administration, and the school board.
I am the music teacher at an Alternative high school. Our students are working on their social, emotional, and behavioral growth. Exposing them to Recording and Production Technology caught their attention; demonstrating they have something important to share with their world in a positively creative way. Attendance increased. Breaking through their hard exterior benefited everyone, respectfully.
Since February, I had 15-20 students asking for more studio time with only one booth open. The purpose of this project is to expand my music program by setting up a smaller vocal/recording booth. The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Gen 4 with Audio-Technica Microphone & Sterling Studio Headphones package along with microphone shield, LED lights and shag carpet will create an additional space where my students can effectively and efficiently use their time to practice their craft, prepare for post graduation, work through struggles and collaborate with Business instructor and Speech therapist. More students are projected to come.
