This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My campus is committed to collaboratively provide purposeful opportunities for the education of the “whole” child by motivating and developing critical thinkers who achieve at their full potential while becoming college career ready. The school has been an educational landmark in the southeast residential community of Pecan Park for over ninety years. The school’s philosophy is based on the belief that all children should be provided an educational environment where students can work, play and learn in situations that are stimulating and governed by true-life experiences. My campus is a school-wide Title I campus which serves approximately 580 students in grades Prekindergarten to Fifth grade. Of that, 97.8% are Hispanic, 1.4% are Anglo-American, 0.3% are African American, and 1% other. The student population represents a lower socioeconomic level of 100% who qualify for free breakfast, lunch and dinner.
My Project
As every student enters the school library they will be greeted by the colorful branches of learning book tree.
Books are extremely important in a Childs life, especially at an early age.
Several of our students do not have access to books. Sadly they also do not have a community library. Therefore, the tree will bring inspiration to display NEW books every month for the students to select a book of choice and build their vocabulary and LOVE for READING! The book tree will represent the always blossoming and blooming new adventures of learning .
Nearly all students from low‑income households
