My students need 11 sets of 4 sheep organs and a sensory inquiry kit to investigate organs of the human body.

My Students

Have you ever truly experienced science? Many of my students have not consistently been able to do just that.

Being in an urban high school comes with many monetary limitations, which translates into experiential limitations for students in the science lab.

My students are very curious about the different systems in the body and how they work together. They routinely come up with intriguing questions that they would like to be able to explore for themselves.

My Project

These resources will allow my Anatomy and Physiology students the opportunity to explore major body organs in real time. Instead of reading about the brain and its structure, they will be able to see, touch, and manipulate a real (sheep) brain. Instead of looking at a picture of a heart or kidney, they will be able to look inside and see what these organs are really like and how they work. They will get a look inside an eyeball and work with materials that will allow them to explore other sensory organs as well. These are the types of experiences that encourage a love of learning that go far beyond the science classroom. These are the experiences that make difficult concepts come alive.

Experiencing science and learning about the human body, while fostering life-long learning in general and continuing to encourage their natural curiosity, also encourages students to become conscious of the health of their own bodies.
