My Project
At our school, reading is priority #1. We set aside time each day for students to read and learn comprehension strategies. Besides learning to comprehend text, the main goal is learning to LOVE reading! Kids in this generation tend to gravitate to easier, more familiar books when they are reading.
As a 4th grade, we strive to use our reading time to expose kids to deeper, richer text they wouldn't normally read. Along with reading these books, students will do hands-on projects that relate to the books. For example, one of the books we read is "What Were the Twin Towers." We read this in September around the anniversary of September 11. Once finished, we take a virtual field trip to the 9/11 museum and memorial online.
