Help me give my students the access they need to close the academic gap. The Brain Quest workbooks will allow students to work from home without the need of the internet/devices and not fall behind.
I am teaching an amazing group of special education and general education (ICT), third & fourth-graders in a New York City DOE school. The model we are using this year is called the Hybrid. In a given week students split their time in person in school and remotely at home. This has caused it's own unique problems, especially for our younger students.
My students are curious explorers who want to see the world, they have a million questions, and learn a great deal from on another.
However, technology literacy has not been a constant in their lives before this pass year, and equitable internet has not been widely available to every one. Because of this model and my students individual needs, I need to be able to provide my students with their OWN tools to use at home. This includes books, math manipulatives, and common supplies.
My students thrive with hands on materials that they can use at any time and allow them to be a part of the lessons without having to rely heavily on the limited technology them have. But to give to the students at home and in school, we need your help!
My Project
The Brain quest workbooks will allow my students to have access to topics we are doing in class while they are at home on their remote days. With the hybrid model and splitting their time in school and at home students often forget their notebooks, devices, chargers etc. At this time not all students even have access to the internet or a device to complete work and lessons. The wookbooks allow my students to stay connected and close the learning gap on their remote days.
Why grades 2-3?
Even though the students are 3rd graders, with the pandemic, summer, and hybrid model we have seen a steep academic decline. We believe its best to improve their foundational skills from second grade to improve their third grade skills.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
