Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners in a Spanish developmental bilingual program, which means that they are exposed to listening and speaking in English, but learn Spanish reading and writing first. These students transition into English reading and writing in second grade. My students attend one of the largest public elementary schools in Wisconsin, with nearly 800 students, 98% of whom qualify for free and reduced-price lunches. As the second and third grade English as a Second Language Teacher, I help to bridge Spanish and English Literacy.
If you were to enter my classroom, you would hear students speaking primarily in Spanish, but as I enter the room students begin to shift to English!
They are bridging two languages to become future leaders in an ever-changing world and I will do all that I can to support them.
My Project
These Brain Quest workbooks will allow my English Learners the opportunity to practice skills across all subject areas, while increasing their English Language Vocabulary skills. The sight word practice books will provide a fun and engaging way to master the sight words to increase reading fluency.
My English Learners will continue their learning at home through the same hands-on activity based learning we do in our classroom.
These distance learning materials will help my English Learners prepare for the next grade level and give them the opportunity to succeed!
