The students of my classroom are a cohort of diverse, intelligent, and hardworking students from around the New York City Metropolitan area. Many of my students receive free lunch and free fare to school. Our school is a selective, public, college-preparatory school with a focus on science, math, and engineering that provides a challenging academic experience that prepares students for careers in science, math, and engineering.
My students are curious thinkers and eager to always learn.
As an educator, I hope to continue to help foster their learning and growth as inquisitive individuals!
My Project
This project is designed to help students in our academic enrichment Executive Functioning Program. Many of our scholars come from families that have a lot of adversity in their lives (they are socioeconomically disadvantaged, many do not speak English, etc.). The families of these students care very much for their students but are sacrificing their time and efforts to make sure their entire family's basic needs are met (i.e. holding several jobs, working long shifts to earn more, etc. to make sure their is food on the table).
Due to challenges in their lives, many of our students in this program have not mastered basic executive functioning skills (i.e.
time management, organization, communication, etc.). Our program aims to teach and reinforce these these skills so that they can be successful in school and beyond. Since this program is after school, and continues into the late evening, students need extra brain fuel so that they can concentrate and absorb all the the new knowledge we are providing them. With these snacks, students will be able to better focus after a long day and not have to worry about missing meals.
