My Project

Games?! Did somebody say games? Games are a regular part of children's lives regardless of their age or grade level. Students play games daily on their computers, the internet, and cell phones. Oftentimes, games are overlooked in the classroom as a method for helping students learn. I believe that using an interactive approach to learning helps children form a connection with what they are learning.

My classroom is comprised of students English Language Learners, many newly arriving in the country.

Some of their best experiences socially and educationally occur in the school environment. They are faced with the struggle of learning the English language, and meeting the rigorous demands of the State Standards all while simultaneously getting accustomed to a new life in a new country. Despite these struggles that are far beyond their control, my students work very hard and are dedicated to doing their personal best.

My goal is to open the minds of my young students and create a passion and thirst for learning enabling them to become successful citizens of the future. In my classroom, I like to provide my students with multiple opportunities to learn. In addition, it is important to include multiple modalities to teach and expose them to a variety of ways to gain knowledge that extends beyond paper and pencils.

Students can work independently or in partners with these games to practice, reinforce, and enrich the many skills they are learning in class. Using games in the classroom will also help the students in my classroom who are English Language Learners providing them with visuals and concrete representations of various concepts.
