Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Gifted students are prone to work in isolation. Their years quarantining with Covid have only added to this problem. Also, in my school building, English is not most students' native language. The Spanish speaking card games are to encourage native English speakers to learn the prevelent language in our building in a fun way. We know that learning a second language enhances problem solving, memory funcition, creative thinking capacity, empathy towards the native speakers, improves memory and improves academic performance. For this reason, I have added one set of the Spanish speaking cards as well.
I would like to bring in a few STEM, board games to encourage community, cooperation, communication, empathy, logical thinking and creativity.
Students will utilize the board games as community builders, in class assignments through our gifted program, and during times they finish their work. I'd much rather see my students working together on board games than tuned into their technology in isolation when they finish their assignments.
