My Project

This project will help me provide food for my students while they are in the classroom. First, students cannot learn if their basic needs are not met. One of these needs is the need to be free from hunger. When students are hungry, they will struggle to focus and retain information. It is natural for students to get hungry at various times throughout the day, but some are not getting enough food at home and need the added nutrition daily.

Next, snacking can help calm students.

Some students who have experienced trauma need to snack because it provides comfort. This is not to say that students should use food as a way to deal with their emotions, but providing food to a student who is having a hard time and is also hungry will help that student restore peace within themselves.

Finally, I am also requesting aid in purchasing bulk candy for my classroom candy machine. This candy machine is used as an incentive for the students. After a challenging task, I give students a token. The candy machine puts out about three small pieces of candy. Although students are not receiving a large amount, they put forth great effort to obtain a token. I have also learned that providing students with a little snack/incentive during a task helps them to concentrate.
