Through the current pandemic, I have shifted my classroom from school to my home and it has been challenging, not only for myself, but for the students and their families.

It has been challenging navigating the new online learning platform and shifting what I have become accustomed to.

Currently, my students are practicing distance learning at their homes using Chromebooks that they were able to check-out. This allowed them the ability to access the material online. My first graders are working hard to complete the assigned work in Google Classroom. I am proud of them and their families for being patient as we navigate distance learning together.

The students have access to me for lesson instruction as well as emotional support as we tread the new normal. The best part of my week is the time spent seeing their excited faces as we have a class meeting on Zoom. They have access to the technology they need to complete assignments as well as online resources to help in their understanding of the material being presented to them.

My Project

I want to make sure all of my students have a set of headphones so that they can use them with their Chromebooks as they learn through distance learning. Giving each student headphones will ensure they can listen to the videos and participate in our class video calls.

I want each of my students to have the Dr Seuss book, Oh, The Thinks You Can so they can see all that they are capable of.

It will also give them an actual book they can read away from their computer screen. Also, I will write each student a personalized message and give it to them so they know I am proud of them and I know they can do anything.

The snacks will give them food for their brain. During this pandemic, most children may not get the basic nourishment they need to complete their assigned tasks. I used to provide students with snacks daily and I just want to ensure they have something to keep their motors running and able to learn.
