My Students
Do you remember dissecting a frog in your science class? I do! I would love my students have the opportunity to have that same memory from their high school experience. Students often struggle with grasping intangible concepts when studying body systems. The solution? Dissect a sheep brain!
Students at our school often come from less than desirable circumstances.
Many live in under-underserved communities in NYC. Often their families are impoverished and struggle to make ends meet. For most, their last hope for getting themselves out of their situations is school. Even given their situations, student come in willing and ready to learn, a desire that needs to be carefully nurtured and developed into student success.
My Project
Imagine slicing into a sheep brain and being able to pinpoint the exact region of the brain that controls the sheep's senses, cardiovascular system or motor control. By giving students an opportunity to tangibly experience the nervous system and gain a sense of how it controls all other body systems, they develop a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the various systems in their bodies.
Each brain dissection kit is a mere $17, a small price for a hundred students to gain a memorable and enjoyable understanding of their nervous systems as related to other body systems.
