This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I love my students so I want to make a difference in their lives. When a student comes through my door, they become one of my kids. I want to push them to their full potential and watch them succeed. I grew up in the neighborhood where I now teach. I want to be that role model for them. My students come from the inner city and are economically disadvantaged however, I teach them to have that grit and follow their dreams with endless possibilities.
What makes my classroom so special is they get to take journeys to different places, meet heroes and historical people, and gain so much knowledge through literature.
Initially, reading is usually their last choice as a favorite subject. However, by the end of the semester, the students have a change of heart and fall in love with reading. I always tell my students that “Readers are leaders and reading is the foundation of academic success.”
My Project
My scholars need UNO game cards and Jenga block games so they can have a fun relaxing brain break. As we are heading towards our second semester our students are in interventions, science camps, math and reading tutorials. It is important to give their brains a break so they can absorb and internalize the content that has been presented.
Giving the mind a moment just to process and internalize the information by giving them a brain break playing these to strategy games can maximize academic results & outcomes.
These two strategy games will impact the brain in a different manner where our students will have an opportunity to be creative and use critical thinking to outsmart their opponents.
I believe this will bring so much success in our classroom learning environment.
