it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My fifth graders are a dynamic, inquisitive group who fill our classroom with energy and imagination. These 10- and 11-year-olds are at a pivotal stage, eagerly exploring new ideas and tackling challenges with growing independence. I love their boundless curiosity, the way they dive into discussions, and how they cheer each other on. However, I’ve noticed that hunger can dim their focus, especially during busy school days filled with math, science, and reading.
This DonorsChoose project will bring healthy snacks like granola bars, fruit cups, and whole-grain crackers to our fifth-grade classroom.
These snacks will keep my students energized and ready to learn, helping them stay sharp for critical lessons and group activities. We’ll incorporate a "Brain Break" routine, where students enjoy a quick, nutritious snack while reflecting on their learning or sharing ideas. This will boost their concentration, encourage collaboration, and build a stronger classroom community.
Each snack is selected for its nutritional benefits and cost-effectiveness to sustain this project all year. Granola bars provide lasting energy with protein and fiber, fruit cups deliver vitamins and natural sugars for brainpower, and whole-grain crackers offer a satisfying crunch to keep them going. By reducing hunger distractions, these snacks will help my fifth graders excel in their studies and develop skills like problem-solving and critical thinking.
