Brain Based Learning with Needed Motivation

My students need 15 pillows in order to participate in a self-esteem building group that will help them feel better about themselves and help them focus more on academics.

This project is fully funded

I teach a class call "Athena's Path" to sixteen eighth grade girls. The school where I teach is a focus school where almost all the students are on free/reduce lunch. The girls in this class are from a low income community where getting their needs met on a daily basis may not be that easy.

The girls in this class signed up for this class because they want to learn how to succeed in school without constant reminders of daily obstacles constantly hindering them. All of these girls are facing many hardships in their lives on a daily basis. Most of these girls can barely afford the things that they need but are still trying to find different ways to help build their self-esteem in order to help increase their academic ability. All of these girls need a boost or just need different ways that they can help deal with everyday obstacles along with surviving in school. I am trying to teach these girls that there are more to life than what they are used to having. I am trying to show these girls that even with everyday obstacles we can still succeed in school. This class will help all these girls focus more on their academics instead of what is going on at home, in the community, or with their friends and family.

I am trying to get pillows so that these girls can relax and let out all the anger, frustration, and peer pressure that are surrounding them on a daily basis. These pillows will make it possible for each girl to learn to relax and learn to focus on what is more important - academics. I am trying to create a classroom environment that will help these middle school girls relax and become more open with all the obstacles they are facing on a daily basis. I want these girls to talk about everyday issues that are affecting them academically and emotionally. Self-esteem and frustration makes it very hard for a child to focus and learn. I am trying to get sixteen pillows to help these middle school girls learn to relax, release, and learn.
