My Students

These highly energetic 2nd grade boys are more visually inclined and learn best when physical objects are accessible to help them make sense of problem-solving. I desire to utilize effective best practice strategies that will allow me to meet their learning strengths and give them the best opportunity to grow and develop.

However, there may come a time when our students struggle with a certain activity, therefore we must find out how to change the environment where they are equipped with the resources that match the real-world tasks at hand.

These students really enjoy highly engaging activities where they can utilize hands-on learning and accommodate their tactile learning strengths.

Therefore, when we are engaged in solving real-world problems and higher-order thinking questions, we must be equipped with real-world resources that we may be able to make relevant connections to and improve retention of the concept.

My Project

As my students endeavor into more rigorous and higher-order reading comprehension, I desire to provide them with resources that encourage effective reading habits, support reading comprehension and that also engages boys in reading.

The "Time for Kids magazines" will engage them with authentic journalism and inspire them to connect with the national discourse on current topics.

They are aligned with the Informational Text and Foundational Skills from the common core standards. The Sports Talk, Scholastic News non-fiction readers will be used for small group and guided reading in efforts to build core literacy skills.

In efforts to provide enjoyable and engaging independent reading, the "Best for Boys" collection of fiction titles are particularly tailored to the minds of boys. The themes generally appeal to the protagonist that tends to tap the curiosity of boys and both engage them in reading and increase their retention of it.
