My Students
I teach in a highly diverse and transient school. This year all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have students with many different backgrounds, single parent homes, students in foster care, and students who have moved several times in their short lives. I have been working at my building for 19 years and love to watch my students grow through the years. Because school is often what they consider their safe space, I try my best to make the classroom a home for them. This year i have both virtual and hybrid (in person students.) I am teaching the live students, the hybrid virtual students and the fully virtual students at the same time.
My Project
This new way of teaching and learning is very unique and each day it is a challenge as we navigate this way of life. One thing that I feel is essential for young learners is the ability for them to have time to play, create and use their imagination. The pandemic has brought many things online, it has forced much of our learning to be done digitally but I feel that it is imperative that children have time off screens to use their their hands and minds to create and play.
This project will allow each student to have their very own box, that is filled with fun and exciting opportunities for them to use materials to create, play, design and learn..
Students can show their creative side with the painting kit, they can use their math skills with the beads, dice and cubes. They can develop their STEM skills and design using playdoh, and wikki sticks and grow their minds though play.
I would love to give each child this opportunity to become more hands on learners while maintaining their health and safety during these unprecedented times
