My Students
Hi, I'm a lower elementary, Montessori-trained teacher within a public school. My students are curious, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. Many of them come from low income homes, but this doesn't stop them from coming to school with smiles on their faces. I am proud to be a part of an urban school district that offers Montessori education as an option to all families. It is amazing to see how my students can progress academically through this hands-on approach to learning.
My Project
Playworks recess programming helps our lower elementary students (grades 1-3) stay active and build valuable social and emotional skills through play. Playworks games and leadership training place an emphasis on engagement, inclusion, empathy, empowerment, community building, and conflict resolution. Since implementing Playworks at our school, we have seen a significant improvement in the quality of play during recess time.
The recess equipment in this project will support the Playworks games that our students play.
Specifically, I am requesting 2 multi-packs of spray chalk and 20 sturdy plastic cones. The paint on our playground, similar to many schools, is worn and faded. Having a supply of spray chalk will allow us to create temporary foursquare courts, hop scotches, and more! Plastic cones are a staple in many of the Playworks games, so we need enough of them to support several games going on at the same time. The cones in this project are appropriately sized for this age group and having 20 of them will ensure that we have enough to use for all of the games.
