The wonderful world of books is opening for my children and they need a unique way to save their creations. I teach first grade in a high poverty area where there is no library close by our school. The children are just starting to write and love reading book written by the class.
Most of my class do not own a single book. If we can create our own books and send them home with the authors, the children will be creating their own library or book collection. The idea of making books that they can keep has excited the children and started them writing. I would like for them to be able to preserve their books in a sturdier form and have something to treasure. We do not have a lot of excess money at our school for these kinds of expenses. I borrow a machine from a friend and buy my own supplies but this limits the class to only one book a year. We want to create future readers and writers.
We need a book binding machine that will make our books look more professional and last longer. We also need card stock to create the covers and illustration pages that add an extra touch of beauty to our books. Then we need the binding combs that attach the pages to the book. These materials will make our books, add strength to them as well as hold the pages in a more permanent form than staples or yarn which is what we use now. The machine will serve for many years and the combs will let us create at least 15 books each.
With your concern and help these young students will have books to read at home as well as pride in their own work. Their books will last a long time and they will share their writing with many more people. You can make our plan come together by helping us meet own goal for binding machine and supplies to create future readers and writers.
