This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are creative! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! All of my students come from a low social economic area in South Texas. I teach at a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students receive necessary resources like food, school supplies, and clothing through donations in the community.
With 100% virtual instruction going on at this time, the majority of the students don't even have the basic supplies that they need.
It's heartbreaking when I ask my students to take out their markers, scissors, or glue and they tell you they don't have any. The majority come from Spanish speaking home environments and are eager to learn about the world around them. All my students are different and they learn in different ways. They are ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically, but without the basics it is very difficult.
My Project
Second graders are always moving. Why not harness that energy and funnel it into learning? Research shows that anytime you can combine sensory input with critical thinking, students will enjoy greater benefits.
These bouncy bands will give each student the ability to use resistance pressure or repetitive movement at their desk.
I would like to have a band for every chair so that no one feels like they are being singled out. I know these bands will help keep all of my students focused in class! Thank you to all that donate.
